Meet Yun-Fei Liu, PhD scientist with style

I earned my PhD degree in Johns Hopkins University by applying my aptitude in Python programming and knowledge in machine learning to study the neuroscience of computer code comprehension and Braille reading.

Rigorous Research

A journey to find out where in the brain are computer programs stored/represented and processed.

Science communication

Constantly honing my presentation skill and slides design to convey my exciting findings.

About my

Research Projects

Throughout my Master's degree study in National Taiwan University, my time as a research specialist in Princeton University, and my PhD degree study in Johns Hopkins University, I worked on several different research projects. You may find out more about them in the pages contained in the tab "Research".

Natural Reading

We often find machine-generated texts awkward to read. What’s the source of this awkwardness in the brain?

Code Comprehension

When programmers try to understand a piece of code, what system in the brain is in charge of this ordeal?

Shared Experience

When a group of people watched or listened to the same story, how does the brain register this shared experience?

Braille Reading

Blind people read with their fingers. How does this tactile reading experience shape the reading network in the brain?

Some awards I have won

Research

G. Stanley Hall Scholar’s Award, for my work in programming code comprehension

Teaching

Walter L. Clark Teaching Award, for my TA-ship in Introduction to Psychology

Presentation

JHU Three-Minute Thesis Competition: Alumni Choice Award
