Drawings

Here, you will find a repository of the random stuff I have drawn over the years. While I was uploading them, I realized a large proportion of them are about World of Warcraft (WoW), the online game I have been playing since 2004. That said, I will try to include the contexts of my drawings as best as I could, so that you can understand why I drew what I drew.

This is a pencil drawing of the character “Methodé” from the TV anime “Beatless“. Methodé is one of my all-time favority characters. She is powerful, resolute, cunning, savage, but also elegant. She embodies the overwhelming presence which I deeply admire.
The drawing was rendered in Photoshop to add tints to the lines.

This is a birthday card I drew for a friend. Let’s use his initial WGL. Around that time, WGL was very into an anime show titled “Squid Girl (侵略!イカ娘)“. While the main character (which is, well…the Squid Girl) was depicted in a cartoonish body-proportion, I decided to draw something surprising for WGL. What I came up with was this – a grown-up Squid Girl.

I once imagined writing down the adventure of my WoW warlock character. And these are what I imagined how some important characters in this never-released-epic-fantasy story should look like. From top to bottom, from left to right: Avogadro the blood elf paladin; Nagmara the renegade succubus who opens a bar in a dwarven city; Rakaiah the renegade succubus who is leading a peaceful life with other demons tired of demonic brutality; Josephine (Joy) Loveandpeace, my warlock character, main character of this story; Nimwena, the succubus summoned by Joy, the other main character of this story. As for what this story is all about? Well, that’s a mystery even to me…

Anyway, I even created logos for these characters. As you might be able to tell, each of these logos is a parody of some anime or game.

This is one of my very first drawings. Wow, that was 2010, a very long while ago! The character I drew was Uzume from the manga series Sekirei. I liked this character, but seriously, I don’t recommend this manga.

And oh my, though I’m still not an expert illustrator, I can surely tell my drawing has improve since 2010!

Alleria Windrunner, drawn after her debut in patch 7.3 of World of Warcraft. Also portrayed in chibi style are Prophet Velen riding the spaceship Vindicaar, the Locus-Walker who taught Alleria how to wield the void magic, Alleria’s husband Turalyon, the Archmage Khadgar, and the returned Illidan Stormrage blasting the patronizing Naaru Xe’ra. It took me a while to figure out how to express the reflections and shades on polished metallic parts.

In WoW, there is a Pet Battle sub-system, which is basically a simplified Pokémon game embedded within WoW. Players collect battle pets around the world, and fight master pet trainers (which are non-player characters, NPCs) to win prizes. Other than the main storyline, I probably spend most of my online hours doing pet battles. On the Timeless Isle, there was a master pet trainer who was a kid of noble decent and commanded an over-powered t-rex. The t-rex was super hard to defeat, and the kid was just annoying. If he won, he taunted the player; if he lost, he cried foul. Unfortunately, players had to win against this kid multiple times to get the reward – and this kid can only be defeated once per week. After a long row of frustrating failures, I final found a team of battle pets that almost always won, without advice from other players. I drew this to celebrate the victory.
Dialogue bubbles:
Joy, my warlock: “Hurray! We won again! You all did a fantastic job!”
Nimwena, my warlock’s succubus minion: “Say again who cheated, huh?”
The kid NPC: “It was me, it was me! Please have mercy, ma’am!”
